The co-operative banking structure is a three tier federal one as follows; A State Co-operative Bank works at the apex level (ie. works at state level),  The Central Co-operative Bank works at the Intermediate Level (ie. District Co-operative Banks Ltd. works at district level), Primary co-operative credit societies at base level (At village level). District  Co-operative Central Banks (DCCBs)  play an important role in meeting the growing credit needs of farmers and rural traders. DCCBs mobilise savings from the middle and lower income groups and purvey credit to small borrowers, including weaker sections of the society. This book has been written to give a clear picture and to evaluate the development of the co-operative banks in our country and also to evaluate financial performance of DCCBs in Andhra Pradesh. Besides, it includes a case study of the financial performance evaluation of DCCBs in the district of Visakhapatnam.
Literatures in co-operatives are lacking, that too in the form of books. Very few people attempted to write the District co-operative central banks, Visakhapatnam. Strenuous efforts have been undertaken by Mr. N. Barou, Mr. G. M. Laud and Prof. B. N. Choubey to write books on co-operative banks in India, during various periods.
