In Chapter 1, profile of Punjab is discussed. It carries elaborate view of history, geography, society, polity, economy and natural resources for the state. Chapter 2 analyses the economic variables affect the development such as district wise percentage share of agriculture in Net District Domestic Product, the percentage share of industry in Net District Domestic Product, percentage share of tertiary sector in Net District Domestic Product and Per capita income of the district. It also carries employment structure of the district as share of agricultural workers to total workers and share of non-agricultural workers to total workers is analyzed. The industrially developed district is Ludhiana in Punjab has high share of non-agricultural workers whereas agriculturally dominated areas like Ferozepur has high share of agricultural workers. The transport facilities are analyzed through road length per lac population, road length per hundred square km and villages connected with roads. The transport facilities are good with 100 percent villages connected to roads.
In Chapter 3, education and health related variables are taken for all the districts of state and differentials are observed. Some districts have high literacy rates and some are placed at lower levels. Similarly,
health facilities are good for some districts and poor for others. There are wide variations among the districts of Punjab with respect to these variables.
